Make your party more fun with a photo station

I can’t get enough of photo booth pictures. They’re fun, they’re silly, they make me smile. And there’s something about a photo booth that brings out the playfulness in everyone. None of this boring “say cheese” stuff. You get all sorts of spontaneous moments and larger than life goofy faces.

That’s why I’m so pleased that photo booths are back in style. You see them at wedding receptions all the time now. In fact there is a VERY silly collection of wedding photo booth books on Shutterfly Gallery, which I peruse every time I need a pick-me-up.

Now here’s a thought. Why limit photo booths to weddings? Why should brides and grooms have all the fun? Photo booths are great for ANY party! And you really don’t need an actual photo BOOTH either. Just set up a party photo station with an assigned photographer, and encourage everyone to think of the station as a booth! No prom poses allowed! I think this idea is perfect for holiday parties, too. Guests will welcome the opportunity to de-stress with some photo spontaneity.

Make yours the funnest holiday party in your town with a photo station! That’s what I’m going to do!

I like this idea a lot and I’m going to give this a try at Christmas and see how it goes. Most grumble, but if we do shots where they are fun and goofy, then they might all agree. I’m crossing my fingers. I like the ‘no Prom poses’!!!
    Great ideas!!

I was drawn in by the title of the story. I ADORE photobooth pictures and just had to look!
I love that weddings are using this style of picture taking at receptions nowadays. It is so fun to take silly shots that aren’t “picture perfect” but actually are!

Definitely not my style, Rachel, but fun to view.

I just went to an 80’s party where they had a photographer taking pictures of all of the guests in costume. I just think that is the best idea ever! You could do that for Halloween parties and any kind of holiday or theme parties. A wedding of course is a great idea but I really think you could take this idea even farther!

Awesome post! I love the photo booth idea and am so bummed it wasn’t on my radar when I got married a few years back. But now, the next party I have will definately have a photo station. Very cool idea!

Great post! We were at a wedding this past year with a photo booth, and we had a blast taking pictures. Fun and I’m so glad to see them again. Love this article. In fact I am going to send this to my friends daughter to see if she will make a book or I will make it for her. Fun idea!!

I agree that you can create a photo station at any party & I love this idea! I went to a bridal show this Jan. w/ my friend & the photobooths were so fun but expensive! In my area the average price was $1200 for 3 hours! I was shocked when my friend was considering the photobooth when she didn’t want to pay for a photographer because she didn’t want to waste money but considered the photobooth! I told her that my husband could probably make a photobooth & my teen daughter could take the pictures so that she could use the $1200 towards a professional photographer! I love the photo station or photobooth idea for other parties & occasions! I thought of my son’s graduation party & how fun a photobooth that we create would be! My daughter will be 16 in October and that’s another time I would love to incorporate something like this! Then you can be at ease knowing most of the guests if not all of the guests will be in pictures that you have to keep forever! Its a great momento to give all the guest when the leave! You can get a little photo printer to print them out instantly! Another idea is to use a laptop at the party to upload to Shutterfly & then have them sent to your nearest Target store & have someone pick them up before the party ends! :)

Super cool idea….Set up a tripod with a camera and point it at a chair with lights on it. Easy…have anyone standing by snap the photo. Not so expensive…same idea…lots of fun.

I think my sister in law is having one at her wedding in a few weeks. I know she’ll get all the digital files for each pic. I can’t wait to share this with her and help her make a fun wedding keepsake of all the guests having a great time. What a wonderful way to remember a special day!

more about Rachel B

Thank you for visiting “Picture More”, Shutterfly's Community Blog. My name is Rachel, and I come from a long line of photo enthusiasts. My grandparents kept a large (and heavy!) collection of family photo albums in their living room, which my sister and I loved looking through. My mother continued the tradition by becoming a hobby photographer (phrases like “smile, “hold that pose” and “let me get my camera” were a constant part of our lives). Now my sister and I are avid camera fans. She takes beautiful pictures of her children, and I enjoy capturing the many far-away places my husband and I visit. What I love about Shutterfly is that it helps me turn my photos into meaningful keepsakes like photo books, calendars, and photo gifts (I love my coasters, posters, mug and mouse pad!). My memories are now a part of my everyday life, not living in a shoe box or hard drive. And what I love about "Picture More" is that it will help us get even more creative with our pictures. I'm excited to exchange ideas with all of you!
