Create a photo book journal

Tis the season…for Birthdays! Every year when March arrives I begin to panic about birthday gift ideas. It’s a very busy birthday month for me and continues through July. And every single year I draw a blank for the perfect, personalized, gift. This year will be different though, because I have an idea (thanks to the Shutterfly Photo Book Gallery).

The other day I came across some photo books in Gallery that were created to be used as journals. This is when the big idea hit me. These would be perfect for those special personalized birthday gifts! Take a look and get inspired, yourself.

The first one is by JoeyM made for her daughter. It is fabulous and she put a lot of work into making this book perfect. Simply adorable. She included pets and month to month memories and of course, all of the pictures of her daughter!

A different theme was a guest book TammyM5 made for her daughters wedding.  I liked a few of the layouts that I could copy for journaling pages that include photographs.

PattyW5’s Express Yourself is another digital scrapbooked journal I thought was cute.

These journal photo books were made with design software, but don’t let that stop you! You can easily create one using Shutterfly templates. Like this.

So, next project, a personal small journal for myself and if I love it as much as I think I will, the rest of my friends will be getting one for their birthday this year! Problem solved!

This is such a fabulous idea! I love the examples you used! The book created by Tammy (TammyM5) is gorgeous! I agree that would work for a journal style page as well! The book by JoeyM is so much fun & I was so inspired to make a journal photobook like that for my nieces someday! I JUST NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DO DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING FIRST! LOL!!! I haven’t viewed PattiW’s journal photobook but I will check it out right now! The page she created is so pretty! It so neat that you did show examples of how someone can create a journal with Shutterfly templates that are amazing! I love the one with Braden! He’s such a perfect model! What a priceless keepsake a journal would be! What family member or friend wouldn’t love a gift like this?!!

Great article Tiffany that is packed with so many clever ideas & perfect examples for an amazing birthday present/Mothers Day present/baby shower gift/ Bridal shower gift! It would be so neat to give an expectant mom a journal like this at her baby shower! She could journal all about her pregnancy, doctors appointments, the labor, delivery, meeting their baby for the 1st time, & journaling about becoming a new mom! You could use photos of the couple, sonogram photos, photos of the pregnant mom, nursery photos, or use digital scrapbook baby elements! If you know the baby shower theme then you could go out & take photos in the store of the theme she is using! You could also visit ahead of time & take photos of all the things the new mom bought for her new bundle of joy! Then you could put photos of little onesies, socks, shoes, stuffed animals, rubber ducks, blankets, rattles, & the nursery in the book before the shower!
Oh…I’m so excited to do a journal book now! Thanks for the inspiration! :)

This is a busy time in our family, too, for birthdays and I’m running out of ideas. BUT with your brilliant article, it gave me some great ideas for future books. I may even make a few pages for my sisters book that i was telling you about. So if i don’t hear from people they can leave her a few birthday messages inside the book. Or people at her party can sign the book too.
I’m so glad I ran across this article. Now I will not fret!
Thanks for the great inspiration Miss Tiffany! :)

I love this idea. It so cool to give out something so personal. I think these gifts are so special and perfect for tweens to grown up ladies. I also have thought about making address books too.

This is a must do for gifts and just for myself. I love it and can’t wait to make a journal. I have been looking at them in the gallery and just love all the creations. I saw the tulip that was so like my tulip. What do you know. Great article. I love it! barbj

Toni, those last two examples are Shutterfly layouts… no scrapping needed! :o) Thank you all for the great feedback!

I’ve made numerous photobooks over the last few years and am very happy with them all, Shutterfly’s quality is great, but now I will be working on my first “guest book” for a friend’s wedding and need some advice on recommended pens for writing on on the pages. The guest books that I’ve seen have been from other sources and they have thick pages, like tagboard. I’m concerned about the slick pages and ink bleeding through? I’m nervous about the outcome….you know how important every detail is for the couple! I’d hate to disappoint.
