Making a photo book is easy with Auto-fill

I just discovered the Auto-fill photo book tool and I can’t wait to tell you about it, because it makes the photo book process incredibly easy. Really! It’s perfect for those of us who like the control of  making photo books in Custom Path*, but don’t have time to choose each and every layout. I made a 58 page book in just 20 minutes, and this included format adjustments and journaling. You can do it too, believe me. Here’s how.

After choosing the size, cover, and styles for your photo book, click the “Storyboard” link in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

Now click the “Auto-fill” link. This function will automatically place all of your pictures on the book’s pages, based on image types, sizes/shapes and the order your photos were taken.

I couldn’t have chosen better layouts myself. Thank you Auto-fill!

*And for those of you asking yourself, “what is Custom Path?”, here’s quick explanation. Shutterfly offers two ways to create photo books. The first is called Custom Path. This method allows you to customize your photo book page by page. The second is called Simple Path, and it instantly makes a book for you.

Hope that helps!

I did try the story-board feature once but felt it was more work had I just placed the photos in the layouts BUT I didn’t see the Auto-fill, I MUST give that a try. Sounds like it would be so slick.
I don’t think I gave Story Board enough of a try.
    Thanks for this tip Rachel!

oh wow, I did not even know about this feature, I will have to try it out on my next book. I love the the custom path books but am always looking for the fasted route :). Thanks for this informative article, love learning things new :)

WOW, Rachel I knew you were good and even your photographs are awesome. HA! It is always such a surprise when you open an article to read and you see your photos. Auto fill is really easy and many time my best books are the ones I spend the least amount of effort on. My “Dancing in the Sun” with my hummingbirds was an auto fill book that took only a few minutes to make. Great article, BarbJ

This is such a cool option for custom path books. If you want more control than you can get with simple path but want to take advantage of some of the time saving steps that simple path has to offer than auto fill and the storyboard choices in custom path is for you. Love all of the choices and options for making photobooks. You gots to love Shutterfly.

more about Rachel B

Thank you for visiting “Picture More”, Shutterfly's Community Blog. My name is Rachel, and I come from a long line of photo enthusiasts. My grandparents kept a large (and heavy!) collection of family photo albums in their living room, which my sister and I loved looking through. My mother continued the tradition by becoming a hobby photographer (phrases like “smile, “hold that pose” and “let me get my camera” were a constant part of our lives). Now my sister and I are avid camera fans. She takes beautiful pictures of her children, and I enjoy capturing the many far-away places my husband and I visit. What I love about Shutterfly is that it helps me turn my photos into meaningful keepsakes like photo books, calendars, and photo gifts (I love my coasters, posters, mug and mouse pad!). My memories are now a part of my everyday life, not living in a shoe box or hard drive. And what I love about "Picture More" is that it will help us get even more creative with our pictures. I'm excited to exchange ideas with all of you!
