Splish Splash: Creating Bathtime Memories

Posted By Jessi Weithman On June 18, 2010 @ 7:00 am In Photo Tips | 4 Comments

There is no better way to end a busy day than with a rub-a-dub-dub in the tub. Creating a fun storybook from everyday moments like bath time is as easy as one-two-three. Here are my secrets to my new Spit Spat Splish Splash photo book [2] [1]:

1) Get a $10 tub! Bath photos are always tricky to capture since most bathrooms do not get great lighting and are so small. Pick a $10 tub, fill it up inside with warm water and pop it in your backyard for instant fun and guaranteed great photos.

2) Snap Away! This requires two adults for wee-little ones. One to watch the baby, and one to take too many pictures. The more you take, the more selection you will have. You’ll need at least 10-12 photos for a 20 page book. Take 5x more than you need to be sure you get a fun variety and eyes open.

3) Tell a Story! Add simple text written in short sentences to the pages just like a children’s picture books. The simpler the better, even single words will work. Limit each double page to one image for the most stunning results. Images can cross pages or add the image to the left side and text on the right rotating throughout.

My Spit Spat Splish Splash photo book just arrived in the mail and is an instant favorite with my boys. It combines the steps above with two twists. The book open from top to bottom, and contains two books in one. The first is Levi’s bath time story and the second is Mack’s and opens the opposite direction.

Bonus Tip for the Digiscrapper: I created the book designing pages in Photoshop, and using a free animals webding font for an added touch. Check out the free font sites and search for “animals.” If you want to flip, after adding the pages into the book, you can rotate them using the Shutterfly edit options.

Be prepared to order two copies of this one! Your little one will adore this book so much it’ll get lots of love, so you’ll need one for keeps too.
