Cozumel hotel & dining must-dos

I am taking a vacation in November to Cozumel and staying at the Iberostar Cozumel and I can’t wait! One of the big advantages of working at a travel company is that I can truly ask the experts about the area. So I asked David, who works with Cozumel on daily basis, about what to do and the resort. This is the response I got back and thought it was too good not to share with everyone! I’ll be sure to follow up with another post when I get back to share some photos.
When most people go to Cozumel they think diving, but there really is so much more to the beautiful island. So much so, that I want to share some of the recent highlights of my Mexico vacation and my trip to the beautiful island of Cozumel.

I stayed at the Iberostar Cozumel . It’s a wonderful hotel with bungalow style rooms and active atmosphere. There are 4 rooms to a bungalow, with either king bed or two double beds. Each room has a mini-bar filled with water, soda and beer. There is an alarm clock (so you don’t have to set your phone to wake you up), T.V. with international channels; small table with chair and the bathrooms only have showers. Most rooms provide a view of the lush tropical jungle that surrounds the property. One note – there are no elevators at this resort.
The beach area is expansive with several beach lounge chairs and good shade if you want sun but not too much. The pool is large and divided into two, with an active side providing water basketball, and volleyball. The larger side provides ample room to wade around and seek out your favorite beverage at the swim up bar. Warning – there is an incline as you approach the area. Most of those around got a good laugh…
Now for what’s different. One of the nights the gang and I decided to go into town to eat. We were looking for authentic and off the beaten path, but we didn’t want to spend too much. A couple of our friends from the island recommended La Chaze. It’s a local restaurant located between 2nd and 4th avenue in the heart of the downtown area. La Chaze is a very relaxing and informal restaurant. When we sat down the waiter took our order within minutes and welcomed us with some chips and salsa and cheese salsa. The menu was very simple and offered the local favorites – fajitas, shrimp, fish, ranchera, soup and more (each dish could be prepared in a variety of ways). Our choice for the evening was to start off with some Tortilla soup and for our main course we shared some beef and chicken fajitas and grouper. The tortilla soup is a local favorite throughout Mexico.

Tortilla soup comes with a tomato broth and a side plate of guacamole, cheese, tortillas and hot peppers and it’s your choice as to what and how much you add. My recommendation is to add it all and enjoy. For main course we had a variety of beef and chicken fajitas and enchiladas. The fajitas were excellent, with great flavor and plentiful fixings.
On one of our last nights we decided to go downtown again looking for this small restaurant called KINTA Mexican Bistro. It’s tucked away between 2nd and 4th streets and 5th avenue in downtown Cozumel, and provides a relaxing atmosphere you are sure to enjoy. This family owned restaurant provides a variety of dining options with the menu changing every three months. My recommendation is to start off with the fish tacos and your favorite beverage and for a main course I recommend the shrimp and scampi pasta with dried tomatoes and risotto. Excellent portion sizes and the price to value are unbelievable. When you leave you will feel as though you should have paid more.
So, the next time you go on a vacation to Cozumel, check out some of these places. Or, if you have already been, or want to share some of your dining and resort experiences in Cozumel, please leave a reply to my post.
