Make It A Family Photo Weekend

Hubby and I are getting ready to celebrate Baby’s first holiday season, and along with other preparations and considerations, that means we get to take our first official holiday family photo! According to a recent Shutterfly survey, November is the biggest month for family holiday photos; in honor of the snap-happiness, Shutterfly is kicking off Family Photo Weekend today. If you’re feeling festive and want to get on the photo-taking bandwagon, I thought I’d post some helpful hints that I’ve gathered from friends and family for making the most of that holiday snap and creating the perfect holiday card (you can get additional tips and tricks at our Twitter Party TONIGHT 11/12 at 6pmPT/9pmET on Twitter.com by following #FamPhotoDay! RSVP here for a chance to WIN Shutterfly Holiday Cards!):
Don’t Fret About Matching Clothes
You’ve got enough to worry about to add coordinated clothing to the list. Just pop everyone in something they feel great in and change the photo to black & white or sepia tone. For example, I love the look of this modern card design with a black & white photo from Fresh Lemonade .
Put a New Spin on the Christmas Letter
Let’s face it; Christmas letters are time intensive to write…and to read. Shorten things up while still delivering the info in style with one of Shutterfly’s new Story cards. Here are three great options:
If One Picture Speaks a Thousand Words, What Do 10 Pictures Say?
Baby is already out of the “sit, stare, smile and drool” phase: we’ve got a wiggler on our hands! But instead of worrying about getting Baby, Hubby and myself looking great at the same moment, I might send a collage card with highlights from the year featuring “best shots” of each of us. It’s a great way to tell our family’s annual story without stressing that Baby (or Hubby, or the dog!) won’t “Look at the birdie!”
Finally, if you’ve got a little one, who changes daily, you might want to opt for a monthly photo recap of his/her year like this adorable greeting from Yours Truly:
Happy snapping and holiday card making!
