DIY Modern Art: Circle Tree
Posted By Amanda F On April 7, 2011 @ 7:00 am In Family | 2 Comments
The beauty of this project is that you don’t have to be crafty or a painter to make it. All you’ll need is some blank canvas, paint and round stencil sponges.
2 pieces of 16″x20″ wood framed canvas
Acrylic paint: dark purple, purple, gray and black
The first thing I did was sketch out the design on paper. This made it easier to visualize what my design should look like (you can also use a picture of something as your inspiration). I used colored pencils to help me decide what color would go where on the canvas. I measured the paper and figured out where each of the trees should be. This made easier to draw the designs directly onto the canvas.
I used a pencil to lightly draw the design onto each piece of canvas.
Next I thinned some black acrylic paint and used a liner brush to paint on the branches and trunks.
I loaded a paintbrush with paint and in one motion added each of the circle leaves. I’m a lefty, so I began at the right end of the canvas to avoid accidentally dragging my arm or hand through wet paint.
I added a second coat to each of the leaves and that was it, they were done.
These are hanging in my teenage daughter’s room and she just loves them.
