Make your Summer Bucket List

Summer is coming! Summer is coming!
It’s funny how that sentiment means such different things to different people. Ask a 10 year old how he feels about summer and you’ll likely get a SLIGHTLY different answer than if you were to ask a stay at home Mom with two or three kids in school.
Summer! So what if you’re one of those Moms who is secretly (and maybe somewhat guiltily) dreading the long days of summer? What if you’re already making mental notes of activities and outings and games to fill the hours and days until school starts again in the fall?
Now is the time to start making a plan. And your kiddos can help.
You’ve heard of a Bucket List, right? 100 things to do before you die. Well how about making a Bucket List – with a twist?
25 Things to Do Before the End of Summer
1. Have a picnic in the backyard.
2. Eat popsicles for supper.
3. Spend a weekend being tourists in your own town.
4. Bake cookies for your next-door neighbors.
5. Take silly photos and send them to Grandma – just for fun!
6. Get the neighborhood dogs together for a fashion show.
7. Have a good old fashioned lemonade stand.
8. Create a masterpiece on the driveway out of sidewalk chalk.
9. Go to a drive-in movie.
10. Camp in the backyard.
11. Make your own tie-dye shirts.
12. Perform ten different custom, crazy jumps off the diving board.
Go traditional with fireworks, watermelon and sprinklers — or think totally out of the box! It’s your list – make it YOURS. Maybe you build in a few items that will progress throughout the summer months – like “Use a different combination of toppings on your pizza every Friday for Make Your Own Pizza night” or “Put together a 5000 piece puzzle.”
Finalize your list and have a special dinner on the first day of summer vacation to kick off the fun. Keep the list posted somewhere visible – the fridge, the mudroom, the playroom. Your kids won’t dream of getting bored when they have this list o’ fun to take care of!
I’m sure I don’t have to remind you to take photos of each item – they will be priceless photo opps. These memories would be perfect for a summer photo book or calendar , or I’m sure there will be at least a few snapshots worth enlarging and framing. You never know!
