« Back to Photo Book Ideas

You know I’m in love with our All New Custom Path photo books, and you know I can’t stop using those Idea Pages (who wouldn’t want to look like a design genius with just one click?). But did you know I’ve become an embellishment fan too?

Here are my top 3 tips for using All New Custom Path embellishments.

1. Don’t be afraid to go BIG

This photo book maker enlarged her travel themed embellishments in Spring Break, and the pages looks seriously stunning. The gray-on-red is super sharp and those illustrations help tell her road trip story.

2. Frame that photo

Framing a photo with embellishments helped this photo book maker express the festivity and fun of her Mexico vacation.

3. Combine and complement

This photo book maker combines scripted text with two embellishments layered on top of each other. The understated colors and elegant styles work perfectly together, especially when combined with the subtle green background.

Bonus tip – explore embellishment options

Don’t limit yourself to the embellishments included in your photo book style. Check out embellishments in other styles too. Here’s how.

Click on the embellishment tab, then click on “Get More stickers” at the bottom of your screen.

A dialogue box will appear. You can look for embellishments by Occasion, Category, or Color. Choose the embellishments you want to add, then click “Add to project”. They will now appear in your selection.

I love all the fun embellishments in the all new custom path books. Its fun getting ideas from others by viewing their books. I’m working on a book of our recent trip to the zoo that my sister & I took the kids too. I’m waiting to see what pictures my nephew has.
I know there are a lot of embellishments I have not used, i’m so excited to use them all one day. Great examples above

I love the GO BIG idea. I really made pages in my Disneyland 2008 book Pop! And you are right about looking around for more elements to use in the New Custom Path stock pile. Mix and Match I say for more choices!

Love your ‘frame that photo’ & all the screenshots of how to get more ‘stickers’ – I think this will be most helpful for someone who is just starting to explore the ANCP. Love that there are so many options for the embellishments now. One can really customize a book to fit their story. Great tips & great article!

Awesome! Love all the new embellishments. I am a HUGE fan of using texts of all fonts and sizes as embellishments. Shutterfly’s new Custom Path is such a gigantic YAY for me. Makes my life easier when I can finally make things the way I’ve pictured them in my head. :)

more about Rachel B

Thank you for visiting “Picture More”, Shutterfly's Community Blog. My name is Rachel, and I come from a long line of photo enthusiasts. My grandparents kept a large (and heavy!) collection of family photo albums in their living room, which my sister and I loved looking through. My mother continued the tradition by becoming a hobby photographer (phrases like “smile, “hold that pose” and “let me get my camera” were a constant part of our lives). Now my sister and I are avid camera fans. She takes beautiful pictures of her children, and I enjoy capturing the many far-away places my husband and I visit. What I love about Shutterfly is that it helps me turn my photos into meaningful keepsakes like photo books, calendars, and photo gifts (I love my coasters, posters, mug and mouse pad!). My memories are now a part of my everyday life, not living in a shoe box or hard drive. And what I love about "Picture More" is that it will help us get even more creative with our pictures. I'm excited to exchange ideas with all of you!
