Welcoming baby with a photo book

There is nothing more special than the birth of a child and the first moments of wonder and discovery. The tiny fingers and tiny toes grow so fast you want to capture those first moments in pictures.

We recently welcomed our second granddaughter into the world and went to visit so we could capture every little moment. I planned a fun day of photo sessions with our daughter and the baby. I wanted her to look as cozy, comfy and natural as possible so I brought a basket, a textured blanket, and a knitted baby cocoon to add texture against her smooth skin. I took hundreds of pictures with lots of projects in mind, the first of which was a photobook of the little princess and her family.

For the right-hand pages I used Adobe Photoshop Precious Baby Girl Layered Template Set from DesignerDigitals, and for the left-hand pages I used large full-page photos. The templates make it easy with page titles and spaces for the photos (along with all the elements except for the patterned paper) so all you need to do is put in your pictures, add some journaling and you’ll have a scrapbook to treasure forever.

If you are not familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Shutterfly has beautiful baby photo book backgrounds, too –  like Simple Path’s “Tickled Pink” or “Powder Blue”, Custom Path’s “Vintage Baby”, and Creating Keepsakes Sweet Baby.

Here’s a neat trick. If  you don’t have enough pictures to create a full album, crop the ones you have in different ways so you get multiple pictures out of one. You’ll have a full book before you know it!

Neat ideas Katie and I enjoy your books. I like this last tip, too, of taking a photo and cropping it into sections so you’ll fill up a book.

    Love your tips.

Great article! I love your book, and had to get these templates of course. I have a new nephew, and can’t wait to put together a similar book for him. :) You are always such a wonderful source of inspiration. Thanks for sharing your incredible ideas!!

I REALLY ENJOYED YOUR ARTICLE! LOTS OF FUN TIPS! I AGREE THAT NOTHING IS MORE SPECIAL AND EXCITING THAN A NEW BABY BEING BORN! I WANT TO MAKE MY 2.5 YEAR OLD NEPHEW MASON A BOOK OF JUST HIS NEWBORN PHOTOS! I AM HOLDING OUT UNTIL I LEARN HOW TO DO DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING FIRST! YOUR IDEA OF CROPPING THE SAME PHOTO IN DIFFERENT WAYS IF YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TO FILL A BOOK IS SOMETHING I LEARNED FROM ANN ABBOTT! ITS PERFECT IF YOU HAVE A QUICK VISIT WITH SOMEONE YOU DON’T SEE OFTEN OR IF YOU CAPTURED A HANDFUL OF AMAZING PHOTOS AND THEN THE BABY OR CHILD WASN’T COOPERATING! ITS A TIP THAT IS SO USEFUL! THANKS FOR SHARING ALL THESE HELPFUL TIPS AND IDEAS! :)
